Chapter 31 - Zero-G Breach

The Aegis-IV glided through the silent expanse of low Earth orbit like a ghost, its stealth shielding bending starlight around its hull to remain completely invisible to passive thermal sensors. Directly ahead, suspended against the magnificent, curved backdrop of the blue and white planet below, loomed the shadow coalition's equatorial relay station. It was a massive, wheel-shaped structure of spinning habitation rings and central docking hubs, though much of its outer plating bore the scars of decades of neglect and micrometeorite impacts.

Inside the darkened cockpit of the interceptor, Mara monitored the automated docking sequence on her heads-up display. "Proximity alert at fifty meters," the onboard AI chimed in a calm, synthetic voice. "Final approach vector stabilized. Magnetic docking clamps engaged."

Clank.

The subtle vibration echoed through the hull as the interceptor locked securely onto the relay station's secondary airlock. Mara unbuckled her harness, floating slightly in the zero-gravity environment before grabbing a handhold and pulling herself smoothly toward the airlock transition tunnel.

She tapped the keypad on the inner hatch, overriding the station's outdated security protocols with a master decryption key downloaded from Citadel Alpha. With a pneumatic hiss, the heavy steel door slid open, revealing the pitch-black, weightless interior of the abandoned station.

Drawing her tactical sidearm, Mara drifted gracefully through the threshold, her boots clicking softly as magnetic soles engaged with the metal grating of the corridor floor. Her HUD illuminated the narrow, labyrinthine hallways, casting a crisp green glow over dust-covered control panels and flickering emergency lights.

"Infiltration successful," Mara transmitted quietly over her encrypted channel, her voice broadcasting directly back to the Vale command hub thousands of miles below. "I'm inside the primary ring. Moving toward the central quantum server room now."

"Copy that, My Liege," Marcus's voice crackled back through her earpiece. "We're tracking your telemetry. Be advised, our thermal scans indicate movement in the adjacent maintenance corridor. It looks like automated security drones—or surviving garrison guards—are mobilizing to intercept you."

Mara didn't break her steady, calculated stride. "Let them come. I'm ready to collect."
