Chapter 29 - The Sovereign’s Council

With the immediate naval and orbital assault successfully repelled, the command hub transitioned from a frantic war room into a controlled, highly efficient chamber of strategic coordination. Holographic projections shrank and rearranged themselves into a centralized conference layout, displaying real-time sitreps from every major sector of Mara’s global empire.
Thomas and Julian stepped back from the main console, sharing a look of profound respect as they watched Mara command the room with effortless authority. The brief shock of her uncle's sudden, miraculous survival—revealed during the initial hours of the crisis—had completely evaporated, replaced by an intense, laser-focused clarity. She was not a woman distracted by family ghosts; she was a monarch executing statecraft at the barrel of a gun.
"The shadow coalition's vanguard has been effectively dismantled," Thomas summarized, pulling up a combined damage assessment report on his personal slate. "However, satellite telemetry indicates that their central command structure—whatever is left of it—is attempting to regroup at an old orbital relay station in geostationary orbit over the equator."
"An orbital relay?" Mara raised an eyebrow, stepping toward the central display. "They're trying to establish a long-range communication link to broadcast their demands to any other sleeper cells scattered across the globe."
"Precisely," Marcus chimed in, highlighting a pulsing coordinate node high above the curvature of the Earth. "If they manage to broadcast their encrypted signal, it could activate dormant sleeper cells in North America and the Pacific Rim. We would be fighting a multi-front insurgency."
Mara rested her hand lightly on her tactical sidearm, her mind calculating every possible variable with ruthless efficiency. "We cannot give them the chance to rally their scattered remnants. If they want a war across the stars and the seas, we will take the fight directly to their doorstep."
She turned to face Thomas, Julian, and Marcus, her expression hardened into stone. "I want our elite boarding transport prepped at the equatorial launch facility immediately. We are going to board that orbital relay station, secure their master encryption keys, and dismantle their leadership permanently."

"My Liege," Marcus cautioned respectfully, stepping half a step forward. "Boarding a hostile orbital station in zero-G is a high-risk operation. Even with our automated defenses securing the approach, their internal security forces will be dug in."
Mara’s lips curved into a sharp, fearless smile. "Let them dig in. They've spent centuries sleeping in the dark; they've forgotten what it's like to face a queen who owns the light."
