Chapter 21 - Flight Across the Atlantic Coast

The sleek, matte-black V-TOL transport sliced effortlessly through the high-altitude cloud cover, leaving the sun-drenched gardens of the Vale estate far behind. Inside the pressurized cabin, the digital displays flickered with live topographical readouts of the rugged Maine coastline where Site-44 was embedded into the granite cliffs.

Mara sat beside Julian, watching the endless expanse of blue ocean transition into rocky shores and crashing white surf below. The heavy armor and tactical gear she wore felt surprisingly light, balanced by the cold weight of absolute certainty in her chest.

"Nervous?" Julian asked softly, breaking the steady hum of the jet engines as he handed her a cup of hot black coffee.

"Not nervous at all," Mara replied, taking the cup and meeting his gaze with a steady, unblinking look. "Curious. For years, I thought every ghost from my past wanted to tear down what I built. Now... I realize we built something stronger than any ghost."

"Always," Julian agreed, pressing a brief kiss to her temple. "We are fifty miles out. Tactical systems are primed. Automated drones are sweeping the cliffside perimeter."

Through the cockpit windows, the jagged, tree-lined cliffs of the Atlantic seaboard came into sharp view. Nestled halfway down a sheer rock face, hidden behind dense pine forests and crashing waves, sat the rusted, reinforced steel blast doors of Site-44. The exterior security cameras, long dormant, were now pivoting slowly on their mounts, tracking the arrival of the V-TOL transport with quiet, mechanical precision.
