Chapter 27 - The Descent of the Kinetic Hammers

High above the churning, storm-tossed surface of the North Atlantic, the stars seemed to flicker and shift as massive orbital platforms adjusted their positions in the exosphere. These weren't mere satellites; they were monuments to modern engineering and cold deterrence—platforms armed with tungsten-carbide kinetic rods, each one the size of a ballistic missile but carrying no explosives, relying purely on mass, velocity, and calculated gravity to obliterate anything in their path.

Aboard the primary shadow coalition dreadnought, the Vanguard-1, Commander Vane stared at the primitive, flickering tactical displays with a mixture of disbelief and seething arrogance. Decades of cryogenic stasis had left his sensory arrays clouded, struggling to interpret the dense, encrypted data packets flooding their local network.

"Sir, we are detecting multiple high-velocity objects separating from orbital platforms," a junior officer shouted from the primary sensor pit, his voice cracking with sudden, panicked realization. "They aren't missiles. They are... mass drivers. Kinetic impactors descending from high orbit!"

Vane’s eyes widened. "Raise the electromagnetic deflection shields! Divert all reactor power to hull reinforcement!"

It was far too late. The laws of orbital mechanics brook no hesitation. Plummeting through the upper atmosphere at Mach twenty-five, the tungsten rods ignited the surrounding air into blinding trails of superheated plasma. To an observer on the surface, it looked like a shower of falling stars, each one screaming downward with the fury of a fallen deity.

Down in the Vale command hub, Mara watched the atmospheric telemetry unfold with cold detachment. "Impact in five seconds," Marcus announced, his eyes fixed on the telemetry countdown. "Four... three... two... one... mark."

The impact was silent in the vacuum of space, but on Earth, it was felt as a localized earthquake. The first kinetic rod struck the ocean a mere three hundred meters off the starboard bow of the Vanguard-1. The kinetic displacement alone created a subterranean shockwave that instantly fractured the dreadnought's dorsal stabilizers, sending massive geysers of boiling seawater roaring hundreds of feet into the air.

Before the colossal walls of water could even crash back down, the second and third rods struck home. One punched directly through the center of the enemy's secondary escort vessel, turning the multi-thousand-ton leviathan into a cloud of vaporized metal and scattered debris in less than a heartbeat.

"Direct hits confirmed across all primary targets," Marcus reported, a rare hint of professional satisfaction coloring his tone. "Enemy fleet formation is completely shattered. Their flagship is taking on water through multiple hull breaches."

Mara crossed her arms, watching the crippled enemy vessels struggle against the fury of the ocean and her orbital artillery. "They wanted a war for the Atlantic," she murmured quietly, a fierce, triumphant smile touching her lips. "Let's see how well they swim in the wreckage."
