Chapter 37 - The Shinjuku Summit

The executive boardroom on the eightieth floor of the Shinjuku tower was a masterpiece of minimalist modern architecture—walls of smart-glass overlooking the endless ocean of city lights, a massive obsidian conference table, and twenty chairs occupied by the most powerful financial titans of East Asia.

When the heavy double doors slid open and Luca Moretti stepped into the room, followed closely by Claire, absolute silence fell over the gathering like a falling guillotine. Not a single executive dared to remain seated; all twenty men and women stood up in immediate, synchronized deference.

Luca walked slowly to the head of the long table, his dark suit catching the ambient light of the digital displays lining the walls. He did not sit immediately. He simply rested his knuckles on the edge of the obsidian surface, his dark eyes sweeping across the room with a gaze that could strip away corporate bravado in a single second.

"Be seated," Luca commanded quietly, his voice carrying effortlessly across the vast, acoustically engineered room.

They sat down as one. Claire took her seat immediately to his right, opening a slim, matte-black tablet where the master text of the currency stabilization pact awaited final digital signature.

"You received the draft agreements forty-eight hours ago," Claire began, her voice cool, melodic, and terrifyingly precise. "Every clause has been reviewed, every contingency calculated, and every risk mitigated by our automated systems. There are no amendments left to discuss."

An elderly executive near the center of the table—a veteran banking magnate whose family had controlled Japanese capital markets for decades—hesitated, his hand trembling slightly as he touched his pen. "Miss Dawson... the sovereignty clauses in Section Four... they essentially transfer final veto power over national monetary policy to your algorithmic core in Chicago."

Luca leaned forward slightly, the shadow falling across his face sharpening his features into something predatory and absolute. "Sovereignty is a shared illusion, Mr. Takahashi. You surrendered your actual sovereignty the day your banks relied on our liquidity to survive the global liquidity crisis three years ago. We are simply asking you to sign the paperwork that reflects reality."

Takahashi swallowed hard, swallowed his pride, and pulled the document closer. Without another word, he pressed his digital signature key into the biometric slot, authorizing the pact. One by one, the remaining nineteen executives followed suit, sealing the fate of Asian finance under the unbroken banner of Moretti Holdings.
