Chapter 24 - The Eternal Reign

By nightfall, the stars blazed across the clear Chicago sky, forming a brilliant tapestry above the Moretti estate. Inside the grand ballroom, the crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow across the polished hardwood floors. There were no politicians whispering behind champagne flutes, no nervous syndicates plotting in the shadows, and no hidden threats waiting in the linen closets.

It was a private sanctuary—quiet, understated, and absolute.

At the head of the long dining table sat Luca Moretti, dressed in his customary dark suit and white shirt. Beside him, sharing the seat of honor, sat Claire Dawson in a sleek, midnight-blue silk gown that matched the quiet elegance of the room. The guests were few—trusted advisors, loyal captains, and close associates who knew the true cost of survival.

Luca raised his crystal goblet of Barolo, catching Claire’s eye across the rim. The room fell into immediate, respectful silence.

"To new ledgers," Luca announced, his voice carrying clearly across the room, steady and unyielding. "And to the people who know how to read every single line."

Claire raised her glass in response, her fingers brushing against his as their crystal touched with a sharp, crisp chime that echoed softly through the vaulted hall.

Outside, the Chicago night was dark and cold, but inside the Moretti estate, the books were finally balanced—and the house was entirely, eternally secure.
