Chapter 9 - The Police Trap and the Arrest

At 4:15 PM, a luxury pawn and jewelry exchange on King Street was operating under quiet tension.
Inside a sleek black SUV parked across the street, Detective Miller, Sarah, and I monitored the audio feed. A plainclothes officer was stationed inside the pawn shop posing as a high-end estate buyer.
Bradley Vance walked through the heavy glass doors of the pawn shop carrying a black leather duffle bag. He looked jittery, constantly glancing over his shoulder, wearing dark sunglasses indoors.
He approached the counter and unzipped the bag, laying out Rebecca’s vintage jewelry collection, the gold locket, and the external hard drives.
"I need an immediate cash appraisal for this estate lot," Bradley said arrogantly, leaning over the counter. "The sapphire is untreated Ceylon, at least four carats. I want fifteen thousand cash right now, no questions asked."
The undercover detective picked up the sapphire ring with a jeweler’s loupe, pretending to inspect the stone. "Impressive piece. Do you have proof of ownership or an estate certificate, sir?"
"It belonged to my late sister," Bradley lied effortlessly. "She left it to me. Just give me the cash."
"Mr. Bradley Vance?" Detective Miller’s voice suddenly resonated as six uniformed Charleston police officers poured in through the front and back entrances of the shop, weapons drawn and handcuffs ready.
Bradley leaped back, knocking over a display case of vintage watches. "What the hell is this?! I didn't do anything! This is my property!"
"Hands on the counter, right now!" Detective Miller commanded, forcing Bradley against the glass and pinning his arms behind his back.
The cold metal of the handcuffs clicked firmly around Bradley’s wrists.
"You are under arrest for Grand Larceny, Criminal Extortion, Trafficking in Stolen Property, and Conspiracy," Detective Miller recited calmly.
"Wait! It wasn't my idea!" Bradley panicked, his tough-guy facade crumbling into pathetic whimpering within seconds. "It was my mother and Emily! They told me to take the stuff! They have the cash in Emily’s apartment! Don't pin this on me!"
"You'll have plenty of time to tell that to the prosecutor, son," Detective Miller said, pulling the sapphire ring and the gold locket safely into an evidence bag.
Across town, a simultaneous raid was taking place at Emily Vance’s luxury rental apartment.
Emily was in the middle of conducting a live-streamed video interview with a local gossip blog, crying on camera about "military domestic violence," when four female sheriff deputies breached her front door with an active arrest warrant.
The live stream captured the entire scene:

Emily screaming in pure terror as the phone was knocked from her hand, her arms pulled behind her back in front of six thousand live viewers, and the arresting officer reading her Miranda rights while Victoria Vance shrieked hysterically in the background before she, too, was placed in handcuffs for criminal conspiracy and possession of stolen property.
Within twenty minutes, the video of Emily’s arrest went massively viral, obliterating her fabricated narrative in real-time.
