Chapter 15 - A New Beginning Built on Unbreakable Love

The morning sun filtered through the canopy of a picturesque apple orchard in the South Carolina upstate.

There were no massive crowds, no superficial society reporters, and no extravagant thirty-six-thousand-dollar plantation contracts. Just thirty close friends, family members, and military brothers gathered under a simple wooden arbor entwined with fresh white jasmine and wild roses.

I stood at the end of the aisle in a crisp linen suit, my heart beating with pure, unadulterated joy.

The acoustic guitar began to play a soft, soulful acoustic version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Walking down the grass aisle was eleven-year-old Lily. She wasn't just a flower girl this time. She was my Best Person.

She wore a beautiful sage-green dress, her head held high, a radiant, confident smile illuminating her face. She dropped white rose petals with deliberate, joyful grace, knowing without a shadow of a doubt that this was her moment, her home, and her family.

Behind Lily came Sarah, walking arm-in-arm with her father.

Sarah looked breathtaking in a simple, flowing ivory silk gown, holding a bouquet of blue hydrangeas and white roses. When her hazel eyes met mine, a tear of pure happiness slipped down her cheek.

When Sarah reached the arbor, Lily stepped forward, taking Sarah’s hand and placing it gently into mine.

"Dad," Lily whispered loud enough for everyone to hear, "I approve this one hundred percent."

The small gathering erupted into heartfelt laughter and applause.

The officiant smiled warmly. "Who gives this woman to be married to this man?"

Lily stood tall, her hand resting over the gold locket around her neck. "I do. And my mom in heaven does too."

As Sarah and I exchanged our vows, promising to protect, cherish, and honor one another and our daughter through every battlefield and every sunset of life, I slipped a diamond band onto Sarah's finger.

"I pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared. "Daniel, you may kiss your bride."

I wrapped my arms around Sarah, pulling her close for a deep, passionate kiss that sealed a love forged through fire, truth, and unbreakable loyalty.

Lily jumped into the middle of our embrace, throwing her arms around both of our waists. Together, the three of us turned to face the cheering crowd as one unified, unbreakable family.
