Chapter 3 - The Hidden Accomplice.

The revelation that Victoria had a secret partner completely shattered any sense of safety Mark had left.
He immediately ordered David to lock down the entire estate and double the private security detail around the perimeter.
"Nobody enters or leaves this property without my direct permission, do you understand?" Mark commanded with a fierce authority.
David nodded quickly, immediately dispatching his best men to guard the front gates and monitor the camera feeds.
Mark paced back and forth in his home office, his mind racing as he tried to figure out who in his company would betray him so deeply.
"The text messages trace back to a prepaid cellular tower downtown, but the user masked their digital footprint," David explained while typing rapidly on his laptop.
Elena knocked softly on the open office door, holding a stack of the forged life insurance documents in her hands.
"Mark, I was looking closely at the signature on these fake documents, and I noticed something very strange," Elena said, stepping into the room.
She pointed to the bottom of the page, tracing the ink with her finger.
"The letter 'M' in your forged signature has a very distinct, sharp loop at the top," Elena pointed out.
"Victoria's handwriting is completely different. She writes with wide, messy strokes," Elena added thoughtfully.
Mark stared closely at the signature, his eyes widening as a sudden, sickening realization hit him like a physical punch to the gut.
He quickly pulled open his desk drawer and pulled out a recent financial report from his own company.
He flipped to the last page and compared the signature on the report to the forged signature on the life insurance policy.
The sharp, distinct loop on the letter 'M' was a perfect, undeniable match.
"It is Richard," Mark whispered, his voice trembling with a mixture of absolute shock and rising anger.
Richard was Mark's Chief Financial Officer, his most trusted business partner, and a man he had considered a best friend for over ten years.
"Richard has the security clearance to bypass the legal department and approve these policy changes without raising any red flags," Mark realized aloud.
David instantly pulled out his radio, preparing to send a security team to Richard's lavish downtown penthouse.

"Do not approach him yet, David, we need concrete proof before we force him into a desperate corner," Mark ordered quickly.
They needed to set a trap, and Elena knew exactly how to make the greedy executive reveal his true intentions.
