Chapter 1 - The Arrival of Justice.
The heavy wooden doors of the Carter mansion flew open as three armed police officers rushed into the grand living room.
Red and blue police lights flashed violently through the large glass windows, casting terrifying shadows across the expensive marble floor.
Victoria stumbled backward, her face completely pale as she finally realized that there was absolutely no escape from this nightmare.
"Mark, you cannot let them do this to me!" she screamed hysterically, reaching her trembling hands out toward her husband.
Mark stood entirely motionless like a statue, his strong arms wrapped protectively around tiny baby Lily.
His eyes, which were usually full of warmth and love, were now filled with an icy, unforgiving rage.
"You lost the right to say my name the moment you tried to murder my innocent daughter," Mark stated in a dangerously low voice.
Eleanor, Victoria's arrogant mother, immediately stepped in front of the police officers with her chin held high.
"Do you know who we are? You cannot arrest my daughter based on the lies of a jealous, low-class maid!" Eleanor shouted with pure venom.
Elena stood firmly next to Mark, her heart pounding in her chest, but she refused to back down from the wicked older woman.
"I am not lying, and David has the security footage to prove exactly what happened in the nursery," Elena replied bravely.
David, the head of the estate's private security team, stepped forward and handed a sleek digital tablet to the lead police officer.
The officer tapped the screen and watched the horrifying video of Victoria purposely holding the crying baby over the hard marble balcony.
A collective gasp echoed through the room as the video clearly showed Victoria checking the camera blind spots before dropping the child.
If Elena had not lunged forward to catch Lily in the air, the absolute worst tragedy would have occurred.
The lead officer glared at Victoria with absolute disgust before pulling a pair of cold steel handcuffs from his heavy utility belt.
"Victoria Carter, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of a minor and severe insurance fraud," the officer declared loudly.
Victoria kicked and screamed like a wild animal as the officers forcefully pulled her arms behind her back.
"This is not over, Mark! I will take half of everything you own!" Victoria shrieked as they dragged her toward the police cruiser.
Eleanor pointed a perfectly manicured finger directly at Mark's face, her eyes burning with a terrifying hatred.
"You will deeply regret this, Mark, because I will destroy your entire life and take that baby away from you," Eleanor threatened before storming out of the house.
Silence finally fell over the massive mansion as the police cars drove away into the dark, rainy night.

Mark sank down onto the expensive leather sofa, burying his face in his hands as the horrifying reality of the betrayal crashed over him.
Elena gently placed a warm hand on his shoulder, silently offering him her strength during the darkest moment of his life.
