Chapter 2 - The Dark Confession.

The sun rose over the Carter estate the next morning, but the atmosphere inside the house remained heavy and suffocating.
Mark had not slept a single wink, spending the entire night sitting in the nursery while watching baby Lily sleep peacefully in her crib.
He was desperately trying to process the horrifying stack of legal documents that Elena had discovered hidden inside Victoria's private desk.
Victoria had secretly forged Mark's signature to alter his massive life insurance policy, naming herself as the sole beneficiary.
She had also taken out a secret, multi-million dollar insurance policy on little Lily just three weeks ago.
The horrifying truth was completely undeniable.
Victoria had planned to kill the baby for the money, and she was likely planning to murder Mark next.
Elena quietly entered the nursery, carrying a tray with a hot cup of black coffee and some fresh toast for the exhausted father.
"You need to eat something, Mr. Carter, you have to stay strong for her," Elena whispered softly.
Mark looked up at the brave young woman who had risked her own life to save his precious daughter from a fatal fall.
"Please, Elena, just call me Mark from now on," he replied, taking the warm coffee cup from her hands.
"I owe you my daughter's life, and I do not know how I can ever possibly repay you for your incredible bravery," Mark said emotionally.
Elena smiled gently, her kind eyes reflecting a deep sense of loyalty and compassion.
"You do not owe me anything, Mark. I love Lily as if she were my own, and I would never let anyone harm her," Elena answered honestly.
Suddenly, the heavy nursery door swung open, and David walked in with a grim, serious expression on his weathered face.
"Mark, we have a massive problem that you need to see immediately," the security chief announced urgently.
David placed a clear plastic evidence bag on the table, which contained a secondary burner phone they had found hidden inside Victoria's closet.
"The police missed this during their initial search, so I ran a deep forensic scan on the device this morning," David explained.
He pressed a button on his laptop, bringing up a long list of encrypted text messages that Victoria had sent over the past month.
"She was not acting alone, Mark. Someone inside your corporate office was helping her forge those legal documents," David revealed.

Mark felt his blood run entirely cold as he read the terrifying text messages on the glowing screen.
Victoria had a secret accomplice, and this dangerous unknown person was still walking freely out in the world.
