Chapter 14 - The High-Speed Ambush
The next afternoon, David was driving Elena and baby Lily back from a final dress fitting in the downtown district.
The heavy, armored security SUV moved smoothly through the busy city streets, but David's sharp, highly trained eyes constantly scanned the mirrors.
"David, is everything alright? You look very tense," Elena asked softly from the back seat, holding Lily tightly against her chest.
"Two black sedans have been following us closely since we left the boutique. Hold on very tightly, Elena," David warned with a dangerously low voice.
Suddenly, the two black cars violently accelerated, completely boxing the heavy SUV into a narrow, deserted industrial alleyway.
Four heavily armed mercenaries jumped out of the vehicles, raising dangerous automatic weapons directly at the Carter family vehicle.
Julian had realized that Elena was getting incredibly close to his hidden banking records, so he ordered a desperate, violent strike.
"Get down on the floor right now!" David shouted fiercely as a terrifying hail of bullets completely shattered the thick, bullet-resistant glass.
Elena shielded Lily with her entire body, praying desperately as the deafening sound of gunfire echoed through the alley.
David did not panic; he slammed the transmission into reverse and pressed the gas pedal completely to the floor.
The heavy, armored SUV smashed violently into the black sedan behind them, completely crushing its engine block and clearing a highly desperate escape path.
David skillfully spun the steering wheel, driving the heavily damaged vehicle aggressively out of the trap and straight toward the main highway.

"Are you hurt, Elena?" David yelled over the roaring engine, his own shoulder bleeding heavily from a sharp piece of flying shrapnel.
"We are safe, David! You are an absolute hero!" Elena cried out, deeply terrified but entirely unharmed.
