Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Coup

The morning of the final board vote arrived with dark gray clouds hanging over the city skyline.
The main boardroom on the 42nd floor of Sterling Global was packed. Journalists sat in the overflow gallery outside, alerted by Uncle Martin's PR team to witness the "historic leadership transition" of the empire.
Uncle Martin sat at the head of the table, flanked by Daniel and six high-powered attorneys.
Harrison wheeled me into the center of the room. My head was bowed, the gray blanket wrapped tightly around my legs. Clara walked quietly beside my chair, holding a leather briefcase containing my personal files.
"Members of the Board," Uncle Martin began, knocking a wooden gavel onto the table. "We are here to vote on Resolution 109: the immediate removal of Julian Sterling as Chief Executive Officer due to permanent physical and cognitive incapacitation, and the appointment of an interim management board."
"Seconded," Daniel called out loudly, looking at the board members with an arrogant smile.
"Before we cast the vote," Marcus Thorne raised his hand, "my client wishes to address the board."
Vanessa, sitting in the front row of the spectator gallery alongside her mother, snorted softly. "What is he going to do? Mumble another apology?"
Uncle Martin smirked. "You have two minutes, Julian. Make it brief."
I sat in silence for five seconds. The room grew entirely still.
Then, slowly, deliberately, I reached down with both hands. I took the gray cashmere blanket and threw it casually onto the floor.
May you like
The room gasped.
Before anyone could comprehend what was happening, I pushed off the armrests of the wheelchair, planted my feet firmly on the polished wood floor, and stood up straight to my full six-foot-two height.
