Chapter 13 - The Aftermath

Three weeks later.

The news of the Sterling Global corporate scandal dominated international headlines. Uncle Martin and Daniel both received twenty-five-year federal prison sentences without parole for attempted murder and grand embezzlement. Vanessa and her mother were forced to surrender all family assets to pay restitution claims, leaving them bankrupt and permanently disgraced in social circles.

Sterling Global’s stock rebounded to an all-time high as I restructured the board of directors, establishing strict ethical oversight committees and initiating employee profit-sharing programs.

At Sterling Manor, major changes were taking place.

I sat in the library, reviewing new estate deeds, when a knock came at the open door.

Clara stood there, wearing a beautiful dark navy dress—no longer a servant's apron. I had officially appointed her as the Director of the Sterling Charitable Foundation, managing a fifty-million-dollar fund dedicated to supporting low-income families and medical rehabilitation patients.

"How does the new office feel?" I asked, smiling as I stood up from my desk.

"It feels surreal," she admitted, walking over to the desk, her eyes bright with purpose. "I spent the morning approving grants for three children's hospitals. I still can't believe this is my life now."

"You earned every bit of it, Clara," I said, meeting her halfway across the room. "You have a heart that sees people when they are at their lowest. That's a rare power."
