Chapter 10 - The Paper Trail

The screens displayed crystal-clear digital forensic reports, bank ledger routing sheets, and recorded video files.
"What you see before you," Marcus Thorne stated loudly, stepping forward with legal files, "is the complete paper trail documenting the systematic embezzlement of forty-two million dollars from Sterling Global over the past two years—routed directly into offshore shell companies controlled by Martin Sterling and Daniel Vance."
Daniel turned white as a sheet. "That's... those documents are fabricated!"
"Are they?" I asked coldly, leaning against the board table. "Let's play file 4B."
An audio recording played through the room’s high-definition surround speakers.
Vanessa's voice echoed loudly: "What about the car's crash inspection?"
Daniel's voice answered clearly: "The police report is closed. The mechanics certified it as an accidental hydraulic failure. Nobody knows about the cut line."
Vanessa let out a choked shriek in the audience gallery, collapsing back into her seat as her mother scrambled to pull her hands away, terrified of being tied to her daughter's treason.
"Furthermore," I continued, pointing to the screen showing real-time property transfer filings, "Miss Vanessa Vance and her mother executed forged power-of-attorney documents attempting to liquidate Sterling Manor into an offshore trust."

The Chief of Police stepped forward, pulling pair after pair of steel handcuffs from his belt.
"Martin Sterling, Daniel Vance, Vanessa Vance, Eleanor Vance—you are all under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, and grand forgery."
