Chapter 11 - Federal Intervention

The sound of metal handcuffs clicking around Tyler’s wrists echoed across the silent ballroom like a gunshot.

“Wait! There’s been a mistake!” Tyler cried out, his voice cracking with sheer humiliation as the agents pulled his arms behind his back. “I’m a senior commercial captain! I’m an employee of this airline! Vanessa, tell them! Tell them this is a corporate misunderstanding!”

Vanessa didn't say a single word.

As the second federal agent secured her wrists, Vanessa turned her head toward Tyler, her eyes filled with cold, venomous disgust.

“Shut up, you pathetic idiot,” Vanessa snapped, her voice carrying across the front tables. “You gave your wife the encryption keys to your own footlocker. You destroyed everything because you couldn't keep your mouth shut on an airplane intercom!”

Tyler stared at her, completely shattered. The glamorous woman who had promised him paradise, the woman for whom he had publicly abandoned his wife and son, was looking at him as if he were a piece of garbage on the bottom of her shoe.

“Sarah!” Tyler screamed, turning his desperate, tear-filled eyes toward where I stood. “Sarah, please! Tell them! Tell them I love you! I was manipulated! She tricked me, Sarah! You’re my wife! Think of Mason!”

I stood tall, looking directly at the man who had thought he could crush me. My expression was calm, serene, and completely unyielding.

“I am thinking of Mason, Tyler,” I said, my voice ringing clear through the dead silence of the ballroom. “And that’s why I’m making sure he grows up knowing that actions have consequences. Best of luck in your new life.”

The federal agents escorted Tyler and Vanessa through the double doors, their heads bowed in total disgrace, as flashbulbs from local media reporters outside lit up the hotel lobby.

CEO Arthur Pendelton turned to me, his face grave with appreciation. He extended his hand.

“Mrs. Adams… you just saved this airline from a catastrophic multi-million-dollar federal liability. Your integrity, your intellect, and your courage are unmatched. Tomorrow morning, our board will be voting to award your firm our exclusive five-year fleet logistics contract.”

I shook his hand firmly. “Thank you, Mr. Pendelton. The sky is going to be much safer from now on.”
