Chapter 8 - Brantley's Reckoning—The Elite Gala That Turned Into a Federal Siege

The news broke across every international network at 06:00 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS: SENATOR EVELYN STERLING ARRESTED BY FEDERAL MARSHALS ON CHARGES OF TREASON, CONSPIRACY, AND DEFENSE PROCUREMENT FRAUD. HER NEPHEW, BRANTLEY STERLING, INDICTED FOR FIRST-DEGREE AGGRAVATED FELONY ASSAULT.
BREAKING NEWS: KENSINGTON INFRASTRUCTURE DECLARES BANKRUPTCY FOLLOWING ARREST OF ARTHUR AND CHAD KENSINGTON.
Across the city, the shockwaves were seismic. The impenetrable fortress of the city’s ruling elite had been cracked wide open in less than seven hours.
Inside the St. Jude University administrative offices, board members were resigning en masse. Corrupt judges who had previously agreed to dismiss the charges against the three boys were abruptly turning off their phones and attempting to flee to non-extradition countries, only to find their passports flagged by the Department of Homeland Security under an emergency order signed by the Phantom Commander.
Yet, the most dangerous head of the serpent remained alive.
Richard Holbrook.
The CEO of Holbrook Global Defense was not an ordinary billionaire. He was a former military intelligence contractor who commanded a private security army of over two hundred heavily armed mercenaries stationed at his fortified private coastal estate twenty miles north of the city.
Wyatt Holbrook, the boy who had delivered the final, vicious kick to Chloe’s face, had fled to his father’s estate at 03:00 a.m., believing the heavily armed perimeter would protect him from the law.
Inside the tactical command center at Safehouse Zero-Nine, Leo tapped into the coastal estate’s encrypted defense grid.
"Commander," Leo announced, pulling up a 3D tactical wireframe of the Holbrook compound. "Richard Holbrook has locked down the estate. He’s deployed sixty private military contractors armed with automatic weapons, perimeter thermal sensors, and anti-vehicle barricades. He’s preparing a private heavy-lift helicopter on his coastal helipad to extract Wyatt to an offshore private yacht in international waters."
"He thinks he can evacuate his son before the federal warrants are executed," Hayes remarked, adjusting the scope on his sniper rifle.
"Federal warrants cannot penetrate that compound without a protracted forty-eight-hour legal standoff and a high-risk tactical breach," Julian Vance stated from the Virginia link. "The local sheriff refuses to approach the gates. Holbrook has threatened to classify any entry by state law enforcement as an attack on classified defense property."
I looked at the photograph of Wyatt Holbrook on the central screen. The smug, sadistic smile on the young man's face as he boasted about his father’s missile contracts.
Then I looked at the live monitor displaying Chloe’s hospital room.
The nurse had just adjusted her bandages. A single tear was slipping down Chloe’s swollen cheek beneath her closed eyes.
"We aren't waiting forty-eight hours for a legal standoff," I said, strapping on my tactical assault harness and chambering a round into my custom Vanguard carbine. "Task Force Vanguard deployed to eliminate warlords in Kandahar and dismantle cartels in Bogota. A private defense contractor with a god complex is not going to stand between me and justice for my child."

Marcus grinned, a terrifying, battle-hardened smile. "Full tactical breach, Boss?"
"Full tactical breach," I ordered. "Disable their communications. Sever their power grid. Neutralize their perimeter without lethal force unless engaged with deadly intent. We take Wyatt Holbrook, and we bring him to his knees."
