Chapter 12 - The Courtroom of Shadows—Exposing Three Dynasties to the World

Six weeks later.
The Federal District Courthouse was surrounded by hundreds of media vans, journalists, and thousands of ordinary citizens holding signs demanding justice for Chloe Sterling. The story had become a national symbol of the triumph of truth over entrenched, corrupt wealth.
Inside the grand courtroom, the proceedings were swift, ruthless, and absolute.
The recovered 4K parking garage video was played on three massive seventy-foot screens before a jury of everyday citizens—teachers, mechanics, nurses, and small business owners.
Chad Kensington wept openly at the defense table. Brantley Sterling refused to lift his head from the wood. Wyatt Holbrook stared blankly at his hands, realizing that not all the billions in his family’s overseas accounts could buy back a single minute of his freedom.
When the jury returned after less than forty minutes of deliberation, the foreperson stood with absolute resolve.
"On the count of First-Degree Aggravated Assault resulting in permanent bodily harm: GUILTY."
"On the count of Witness Tampering and Obstruction of Justice: GUILTY."
"On the count of Criminal Conspiracy: GUILTY."
The federal judge, a stern woman with thirty years on the bench, slammed her gavel down with the force of an executioner's axe.
"Chad Kensington: you are sentenced to twenty-two years at United States Penitentiary Pollock, without the possibility of federal parole."
"Brantley Sterling: you are sentenced to twenty-five years at ADX Florence, without the possibility of federal parole."
"Wyatt Holbrook: for your primary role in executing this cowardly and sadistic attack, you are sentenced to thirty years in maximum security confinement."
The courtroom erupted into thunderous applause from the gallery.
The three boys were handcuffed behind their backs by federal marshals, their shackles clinking against the hardwood floor as they were led away through the heavy iron holding doors. They would spend their youth, their twenties, their thirties, and their early forties behind concrete and steel bars, where their family names were nothing more than numbers printed on an inmate manifest.

Outside on the courthouse steps, Arthur Kensington was led away in handcuffs for twenty years of tax fraud and racketeering. Senator Evelyn Sterling was stripped of her title and remanded to federal custody for fifteen years. Richard Holbrook’s defense empire was officially dissolved by the Department of Defense, its assets auctioned off to fund veteran medical care and victim restitution funds.
The kingdom of monsters had fallen.
