Chapter 15 - The Final Salute—From the Ashes of Titans, A Peaceful Sunrise (THE END)

The late afternoon sun painted the horizon in brilliant shades of amber, gold, and violet over the quiet suburban garden behind our home.
The hydrangea bushes were in full bloom, their blue and purple petals swaying gently in the warm evening breeze. On the back porch, a round wooden table was set for dinner—fresh roasted chicken, warm sourdough bread, and a pitcher of sweet iced tea.
Marcus, Leo, Hayes, and Julian sat around the table, laughing heartily as Hayes recounted an exaggerated story from their early training days. For the first time in their lives, these four hardened warriors were not surrounded by the smoke of combat or the cold hum of tactical command rooms. They were family, sharing a meal in the safety of the peace they had fought to build.
Chloe walked out of the kitchen carrying a warm apple pie, setting it in the center of the table with a bright, triumphant laugh.
"If Hayes tries to take the first slice before Marcus, there's going to be another tactical breach," Chloe teased, her eyes sparkling with joy.
The entire table erupted into laughter, Hayes throwing his hands up in mock surrender.
I stood by the edge of the porch, looking out over the garden toward the setting sun. The scars on my hands and face remained, but the heavy weight of twenty years of shadows had completely lifted from my soul.
Chloe walked over to my side, slipping her arm through mine and leaning her head gently against my shoulder.
"What are you thinking about, Dad?" she asked softly.
I looked down at my daughter—unbroken, safe, radiant, and free.
"I was thinking about how beautiful the sunrise is going to be tomorrow," I said softly, kissing the top of her head.
The battle was over. The kingdom of monsters was dust.
