Chapter 5 - Freezing the Kensington Empire—The First Titan Falls to Dust

Arthur Kensington was a man who believed money was the only true religion. At 04:15 a.m., he was asleep inside his fifty-million-dollar penthouse atop the Kensington Grand Tower, overlooking the glittering skyline of the city he believed he owned.
The silence of his master suite was shattered by the simultaneous ringing of four private landlines, three cell phones, and the blaring siren of his personal stock terminal.
Arthur bolted upright, throwing off his silk duvet. He grabbed his primary phone. "What is the meaning of this?! Kensington speaking!"
"Mr. Kensington," his chief financial officer screamed in absolute hysteria over the line. "We're under attack! A coordinated financial strike! The New York Stock Exchange has halted trading on Kensington Infrastructure! The SEC just froze all thirty-two of our domestic corporate accounts!"
"What are you talking about?!" Arthur roared, his face turning an apoplectic purple. "Who froze them?! On what authority?!"
"The Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control!" the CFO cried. "Someone leaked our secret offshore shell companies in the Caymans, Panama, and Zurich. Every single foreign asset has been flagged as illicit arms laundering linked to Holbrook Defense! Our liquidity is zero! Arthur, the banks are calling in our two-billion-dollar construction loans immediately! We are defaulting in forty-five minutes!"
Arthur dropped the phone onto the bed, his hands shaking violently.
Suddenly, the massive glass balcony doors slid open smoothly without a sound.
The freezing morning air rushed into the warm bedroom. Arthur spun around, grabbing a gold-plated semi-automatic pistol from his nightstand. "Who's there?! I have private security! I have armed guards in the lobby!"
"Your private security guards were sub-contractors from an agency I personally trained twenty years ago, Arthur," I said, stepping through the curtains into the master bedroom. Marcus walked beside me, carrying a military-grade electronic countermeasures kit.
Arthur pointed the gold gun at my chest with shaking arms. "Who are you?! What do you want?! Did Holbrook send you?! Did Sterling send you?!"
"Lower the weapon before Marcus takes your arm off at the elbow," I said quietly.
Marcus didn't even draw a weapon. He simply stepped forward with blinding, terrifying speed, his hand striking Arthur’s wrist with the precision of a guillotine. The gold pistol clattered harmlessly across the marble floor. Marcus caught Arthur by the collar of his silk pajamas, lifting the sixty-year-old billionaire off his feet and slamming him into a velvet armchair.
I pulled out my phone and displayed a live video feed of Chloe’s ICU room.
"Look at her, Arthur," I commanded.
Arthur, gasping for breath, squinted at the screen. "I... I don't know who that is! What does this have to do with my company?!"
"That is my daughter, Chloe," I said. "Three hours ago, your son Chad held her down while Wyatt Holbrook shattered her jaw in six places. And thirty minutes after that, you personally authorized a wire transfer to Chief Frank Gallagher to make the evidence vanish."
Arthur’s eyes dilated with sheer, sickening dread. "The... the college girl? Chad said... Chad told me it was just a minor dispute with an activist! He said she was trying to ruin his trust fund!"
"Your son is a violent predator," I said, my voice dropping to a terrifying whisper. "And you are the coward who financed him."
"Listen to me!" Arthur pleaded, dropping to his knees on the floor, all his arrogance evaporating into pathetic desperation. "I have money! I have fifty million in physical gold bearer bonds in a vault downstairs! I can give you ten million! Twenty million! I'll pay for the best plastic surgeons in Switzerland! Just stop the SEC! Call off the Treasury! You're ruining my life's work!"
"You cannot buy back what your son destroyed, Arthur," I replied, looking down at the broken titan. "Your company is gone. Your reputation is gone. By noon today, the IRS will seize this tower."

"Where is Chad?!" Arthur wept, grabbing at my pant leg. "What did you do to my son?!"
I pulled my leg away from his grasp. "He's currently at his private penthouse in the Marina District, hosting an after-party with his friends. Marcus... let’s go introduce Chad Kensington to the consequences of his actions."
