Chapter 8 - Bloodlines, Betrayals, and a Broken Truce

The grand ballroom of the Boston Harbor Hotel was a sea of black ties, glittering diamonds, and fake smiles. Beneath the surface of refined champagne flutes and live classical quartets lay the ruthless machinery of organized crime.

When the double doors opened and the announcer declared Don Dominic Moretti’s arrival, the entire room fell dead silent.

Dominic walked in with Chloe on his arm. She held her head high, her spine straight, radiating the quiet dignity she had learned through years of enduring hardship.

Whispers rippled through the crowd like wildfire.

“Is that the girl from the restaurant?”

“She’s wearing the Moretti emeralds...”

“He brought her here? In front of Valenti?”

Across the room, standing beside a group of corrupt city councilmen, stood Salvatore Valenti. He was an older man, in his late fifties, with silver hair, a scarred lip, and eyes full of venom.

Dominic didn't avoid him. Instead, he led Chloe straight toward Valenti’s circle.

“Salvatore,” Dominic greeted smoothly, accepting a glass of champagne from a passing waiter and handing it to Chloe. “You look pale. Trouble with your shipments in South Boston?”

Valenti’s jaw tightened. He glared at Chloe, his eyes narrowing to slits. “You have a lot of nerve bringing a common waitress to an inner-circle gathering, Moretti. She doesn't have the bloodline for this room.”

Dominic took a half-step forward. The air between the two men turned instantly sub-zero.

“She has more courage in her little finger than your entire bloodline, Salvatore,” Dominic said, his voice quiet, perfectly measured, and utterly lethal. “And if you ever look at her with those eyes again, I will carve them out of your skull and feed them to the fish in the harbor.”

Several nearby guests gasped and backed away. Valenti turned bright red, his fists clenching at his sides.

“This truce is over, Moretti,” Valenti hissed.

“You broke the truce when you sent a gunman to my table,” Dominic replied coldly. “The only question left is whether you want to surrender your territory on your feet, or lose it in a casket.”

Dominic turned his back on the most dangerous rival boss in the city, completely dismissing him, and led Chloe toward the grand balcony overlooking the harbor.
