Chapter 7 - Stepping into the Viper’s Den as the Don’s Queen

The failed raid on the Moretti estate sent shockwaves through the Boston underworld. Dominic had wiped out the entire assault team, sending a bloody, undeniable message to the five ruling families.
Three days later, Dominic entered Chloe’s room. He was dressed in a bespoke black tuxedo with a satin lapel, looking every bit the untouchable king.
Behind him, two stylists wheeled in a rack holding a breathtaking emerald-green silk evening gown, dripping with delicate diamond embroidery along the back.
“Tonight is the annual Solstice Gala at the Boston Harbor Hotel,” Dominic announced, leaning against the doorframe. “Every boss, politician, and corrupt judge in the Northeast will be in attendance. Including Salvatore Valenti.”
Chloe looked at the dress, then at him. “Why are you showing me this?”
“Because you are coming with me,” Dominic said.
Chloe took a step back, her eyes wide. “Are you insane? Valenti is trying to kill me! Why would you walk me right into the room with him?”
Dominic walked toward her, his presence filling the entire room. He stopped directly in front of her, his hands resting on her hips.
“Because hiding you in a cellar makes you look like a vulnerability,” Dominic said, his dark eyes blazing with an intoxicating fire. “Tonight, I show this city that you are not my hostage, not a helpless witness, and not my weakness. Tonight, you enter that room on my arm as my equal.”
Two hours later, Chloe stepped out of the dressing room.
The emerald gown hugged every curve of her body, the deep V-neck and open back exuding elegance and raw sensuality. Her hair was swept up in an intricate chignon, and around her throat rested a five-carat emerald necklace surrounded by diamonds—a Moretti family heirloom.
Dominic stood at the bottom of the staircase. When he looked up and saw her descending, his breath caught visibly in his throat. For the first time since she had met him, Dominic Moretti looked utterly disarmed.
He offered his arm as she reached the final step.
“You look breathtaking, Chloe,” he whispered, his voice thick with raw emotion.

“I’m terrified, Dominic,” she admitted, her fingers wrapping around his muscular bicep.
“Good,” he smiled, a dark, wicked grin. “Let them see your grace. I will supply the terror.”
