Chapter 10 - The Dawn Ambush That Stole His Only Weakness

The happiness was short-lived.
At 5:30 AM, while returning from the gala, the Maybach was struck from the side by an armored semi-truck at an intersection near the Mystic River Bridge.
The impact was catastrophic. The Maybach spun across the asphalt, crashing hard against the concrete barrier.
Chloe’s head slammed against the window. Dazed and bleeding from her hairline, she heard the sound of screeching tires, followed by the deafening sound of automatic weapons firing.
“Dominic!” she cried out through the ringing in her ears.
Dominic was slumped over beside her, bleeding heavily from a deep gash on his temple, his body shielding hers from the crushed roof. He groaned, struggling to lift his weapon, his vision blurred.
“Chloe... stay... down...” he choked out, coughing blood.
The rear doors were ripped open with a hydraulic crowbar.
Four men wearing heavy tactical gear and gas masks dragged Chloe out of the wreckage. She kicked, screamed, and clawed at their faces, but a heavy hand clamped a cloth soaked in chloroform over her mouth and nose.

“Dominic!” she screamed, her voice muffled as darkness swirled around her vision.
The last thing she saw before losing consciousness was Dominic crawling out of the shattered vehicle on his hands and knees, reaching toward her with blood-stained hands, his roar of fury echoing into the dawn sky like that of a wounded, vengeful god.
