Chapter 19 - Building the Future

Seven months later, the summer sun bathed the estate in warm, golden light.

The heavy iron gates were open, welcoming a steady stream of delivery trucks.

Gunther’s legitimate shipping company had doubled in size, becoming the most powerful logistics firm on the East Coast.

There were no more weapons in the shipping containers.

There were no more late-night shootouts at the docks.

Gunther Woods had completely completely transformed the underworld into an empire of light.

Inside the grand estate, the atmosphere was chaotic and joyful.

Sam, Kayla’s brother, was jogging up and down the grand staircase without a single trace of a limp.

He was carrying boxes of baby clothes and toys into the newly decorated nursery.

Gunther sat in his study, entirely ignoring a stack of important corporate contracts.

His full attention was on the beautiful woman sitting heavily in his leather armchair.

Kayla rested her hands on her swollen stomach, laughing at a joke Victor was telling near the doorway.

Victor had fully embraced his role as the legitimate head of security, trading his street weapons for a tailored corporate suit.

"I am telling you, Gabe," Victor grinned, pointing at Kayla’s stomach.

"That kid is going to have your temper and her brains."

"God help us all."

Gunther smiled deeply, walking over to his wife and resting a gentle hand on her stomach.

Suddenly, Kayla gasped sharply, gripping the armrests of the chair.

Her brown eyes went wide with a mixture of shock and pain.

Gunther dropped to his knees instantly, his heart hammering wildly.

"What is it?" he demanded, his protective instincts flaring to life.

"Gunther," Kayla breathed, a nervous smile spreading across her face.

"It is time."

Gunther shot up like a rocket, his corporate calm shattering entirely.

"Victor, get the car!" Gunther roared, scooping his pregnant wife effortlessly into his arms.

"Call the hospital and tell them we are five minutes away!"
