Chapter 10 - The Queen of the Empire

Six months later, the sprawling estate in the hills looked entirely different.
The heavy security presence remained, but the atmosphere inside the house was no longer cold and silent.
Sunlight poured through the massive windows, illuminating the fresh flowers placed carefully in every room.
Gunther Woods stood in the study, looking out the window at the sprawling gardens.
He had spent the last six months restructuring his entire organization.
He had handed the violent street-level operations over to Victor Romano, effectively retiring from the brutality of the underworld.
Gunther retained control of the port logistics, turning his criminal empire into a legitimate, untouchable corporate syndicate.
He had scrubbed his hands clean for the woman he loved.
The heavy oak door to the study opened softly.
Kayla walked in, carrying a tray with two cups of coffee.
She was not wearing a gray maid’s uniform, nor was she wearing the thrift-store slacks.
She wore a beautiful, tailored white dress, and a massive diamond ring sparkled brightly on her left hand.
"Sam just called," Kayla said, smiling warmly.
"He walked a full mile on the treadmill today without his cane."
Gunther smiled, a genuine expression that still felt completely foreign to his face.
"That is excellent news," Gunther replied, taking a cup of coffee from the tray.
"We will have him over for dinner this weekend to celebrate."
Kayla walked over and wrapped her arms around his waist, resting her head against his chest.
Gunther wrapped his arms tightly around her, breathing in the sweet scent of her hair.
"Mrs. Gable asked me what we want for dinner tonight," Kayla laughed softly.
"She still looks terrified every time she speaks to me."
"She should be," Gunther murmured, kissing the top of her head.
"You are the queen of this house now."
"You can fire her if you want."
"No," Kayla smiled.
"She keeps the floors incredibly clean."
"And I know exactly how hard that job is."
Gunther looked down at his beautiful, resilient wife.
He had spent his entire life building walls to keep people out, terrified that love would make him weak.
But the night he found the exhausted maid sleeping in his bed, everything had changed.
She had not made him weak.
She had given him a reason to truly live.
Gunther placed his coffee cup on the desk and pulled Kayla completely into his arms.
He kissed her deeply, savoring the peace that had finally replaced the chaos in his mind.

The invisible maid had conquered the monster.
And together, they ruled an empire built on the strongest foundation of all.
