Chapter 18 - No Mercy

Lorenzo was bleeding from a wound in his side, leaning heavily against a rusted steel pillar.

The aristocratic arrogance was completely gone, replaced by raw, animalistic terror.

He raised his gun with a shaking hand, but it was completely out of ammunition.

Gunther walked slowly toward him, the sound of his boots echoing loudly in the quiet warehouse.

"You came into my city," Gunther stated, his voice a low, terrifying rumble.

"You threatened my wife."

"You tried to corrupt the life I built for my family."

Lorenzo swallowed hard, realizing there was absolutely no way out.

"It was just business, Woods," Lorenzo choked out, trying to maintain a shred of dignity.

"Nothing is just business," Gunther replied coldly.

He raised his weapon and aimed directly at Lorenzo’s heart.

"This is personal."

Gunther pulled the trigger twice.

Lorenzo collapsed onto the concrete floor, his eyes wide and unseeing.

Gunther stood over the body for a long moment, making absolutely sure the threat was gone forever.

He lowered his weapon and took a deep, shuddering breath.

The darkness that had plagued him for months finally lifted.

Victor walked over and placed a hand on his friend's shoulder.

"It is done, brother," Victor said quietly.

"The New York syndicate will never step foot in this city again."

Gunther nodded slowly, feeling the heavy exhaustion settling into his bones.

"Burn the warehouse down," Gunther ordered, turning his back on the carnage.

"Leave nothing but ash."

He walked out into the cool morning air, holstering his weapon.

He pulled his encrypted phone from his pocket and dialed his home.

Kayla answered on the first ring.

"I am coming home, my love," Gunther said, a genuine smile finally reaching his eyes.

"The war is over."
