Chapter 14 - Healing a Shattered Heart

Over the next several months, life at the Vance estate transformed completely.
The cold, sterile atmosphere that Vanessa had brought into the house was entirely erased. Ethan hired a team of decorators to completely redesign the estate with warm colors, soft wooden furnishings, vibrant indoor plants, and floor-to-ceiling family photo galleries celebrating Clara’s life, Ethan’s achievements, and Lily’s childhood.
Mrs. Higgins was officially hired back as the permanent head of the household estate, receiving a generous full-time salary, private living quarters on the east wing, and full authority over the home's daily joy and comfort.
Lily’s bedroom was renovated into a magical wonderland, featuring an indoor slide, an artistic painting studio, and a massive bookshelf filled with all her favorite adventure stories.
Every single evening without fail, no matter how busy his architectural firm became, Ethan was home by 5:00 PM.
They cooked together, baked cookies with Mrs. Higgins, tended to Clara’s newly restored rose garden in the backyard, and took weekend trips to the seaside where Lily collected seashells and built towering sandcastles with her father.
Lily’s nightmares gradually disappeared, replaced by sweet dreams and joyful laughter that filled every corner of the house. The scars on her knees and wrists had long since healed, but more importantly, the invisible scars on her young heart had been mended by the unconditional love, patience, and devotion of her father.
One evening, while sitting on the garden porch watching the fireflies dance across the lawn, Lily rested her head on Ethan’s lap.
"Daddy?" Lily asked softly, looking up at the starry sky.
"Yes, my sweet girl?" Ethan replied, gently stroking her hair.
"Do you think Mommy can see us right now?"
May you like
Ethan smiled, looking up at the brightest star shining in the clear night sky, feeling a profound, peaceful warmth settle inside his chest.
"I know she can, Lily-bug," Ethan whispered. "She’s watching us every single second, and she knows that her two favorite people are happier than they’ve ever been."
