Chapter 6 - The Emergency Board Meeting and the Bank Accounts Exposed

Mark Vance froze. "What did you just say?"
Investigator Ross reached into his briefcase once more and pulled out a certified legal deed with the official gold seal of the Delaware Chancery Court.
"Three months ago," Ross explained, handing a copy directly to Mark, "Miss Kristen Vance initiated a forensic audit through our office into the Vance Family Asset Trust, which was originally established by her late grandfather, Arthur Vance."
Mark's eyes widened in sheer panic as he scanned the documents.
Arthur Vance, my grandfather, had been the true founder of the family empire. He was a brilliant, principled man who had built the manufacturing company from scratch. Before he passed away when Jessica and I were ten years old, he had stipulated in his ironclad will that upon our thirtieth birthday, the controlling fifty-one percent of Vance Enterprises would transfer entirely to the daughter who demonstrated 'unimpeachable moral integrity and leadership,' to be determined by an independent legal trustee if any criminal misconduct was uncovered.
For twelve years, Mark and Alice had manipulated the trust records, claiming that I was mentally incapacitated due to trauma and that Jessica was the sole qualified heir.
"Grandfather knew what you and Alice were capable of," I said, walking slowly around the edge of the pool. "He knew Dad was greedy, and he knew Jessica inherited your complete lack of empathy. That's why he appointed Thomas Ross as the secret secondary executor of the moral contingency clause."
"That clause was dismissed in probate court!" Mark shouted, sweat pouring down his forehead, ruining his five-thousand-dollar tuxedo collar.
"It was dismissed based on a forged psychiatric evaluation signed by Dr. Robert Evans—a doctor who received three hundred thousand dollars from your private account two weeks after the fire," Ross said smoothly. "Dr. Evans signed a full confession to federal prosecutors at five o'clock yesterday afternoon in exchange for immunity."
Gasps rippled across the remaining guests.
"As of midnight tonight," Ross announced, "the Chancery Court has officially executed Grandfather Arthur's clause. Miss Kristen Vance is now the majority shareholder of Vance Enterprises. Mark Vance is officially terminated from his position as Chief Executive Officer, and all corporate credit cards, executive accounts, and luxury assets tied to the family trust have been frozen pending a full federal racketeering investigation."
Mark's phone began buzzing frantically in his pocket. Then Alice’s phone rang. Then Jessica’s.
Alerts were flooding in. Bank notifications, board member resignations, emergency stock halts.

"No... no, no, no!" Mark stammered, pulling out his phone, staring in disbelief at the red text alerts displaying zero balances on his corporate cards. "This is impossible! I built this company!"
"Grandfather built this company," I corrected him. "You just used it to buy silence and feed Jessica's ego. And starting tonight, you are completely bankrupt."
