Chapter 11 - The Arrest on the Steps of the Halston Plaza

The following afternoon, the final remnants of the Vance family’s high-society empire fell before the entire world.

Mark and Alice Vance were intercepted by federal marshals on the steps of the Halston Plaza Hotel, where they had been attempting to board a private town car to an airfield in New Jersey. News crews and paparazzi swarmed the perimeter, their cameras flashing relentlessly as federal agents presented the indictment warrants.

"Mark Vance, you are under arrest for federal securities fraud, wire fraud, and witness tampering," the lead agent announced, snapping handcuffs onto Mark's wrists in front of dozens of flashing cameras.

Mark, who had spent his entire life commanding boardrooms and looking down on ordinary people, looked utterly broken. His expensive suit was crumpled, his hair disheveled, and his eyes darted around in blind terror as reporters shouted questions at him.

"Mr. Vance! Did you bribe the medical examiners?!"

"Alice! Did you force your daughter to cover up an attempted murder?!"

"How much money did you steal from the Arthur Vance Trust?!"

Alice broke down completely on the sidewalk, screaming hysterically, covering her face with her designer scarf as female officers escorted her toward the waiting police cruisers. The high-society queen who had spent decades obsessing over appearances was now being photographed in handcuffs, her face plastered across the front page of every major tabloid in the country.

Watching the broadcast from the quiet sanctuary of Sarah Lin’s office, I felt an overwhelming sense of closure.

The lies were dead. The fear was gone. The golden facade of the Vance family had been shattered into a million pieces, and the truth had finally seen the light of day.
