Chapter 6 - The Uninvited Guest At The Grocery Store And The Protective Order Violation

Before the deputies could execute the arrest warrant at Rosalyn's country home, Rosalyn did something even more desperate.

Later that afternoon, Chloe and I drove into the nearby rural town to pick up formula and diapers for Liam. We believed our location was completely private, but Brandon’s private investigator had tracked Chloe’s license plate across state lines.

As I stepped out of the grocery store with two bags of formula in hand, a sleek black Mercedes sedan pulled up abruptly behind Chloe’s SUV, blocking us into the parking space.

The driver’s side door flew open, and Rosalyn stepped out. She wore oversized designer sunglasses and a black trench coat, but her face was pale, tight, and wild with fury.

"Hannah!" she shouted, walking directly toward me across the asphalt. "You give me my grandson right now!"

Several shoppers turned to look. I immediately backed toward the grocery store entrance, pulling my phone from my pocket and holding it up to record her face.

"Stay back, Rosalyn!" I shouted loudly so everyone in the parking lot could hear. "You are violating a restraining order! I am calling the police!"

"I don't give a damn about a piece of paper!" Rosalyn shrieked, closing the distance. She lunged forward, her manicured nails clawing toward the car window where Chloe was sitting with Liam in the backseat. "He is a Thorne! He carries our blood! You are nothing! You stole my son’s future!"

Two grocery store clerks and an off-duty state trooper who had been shopping inside ran out onto the pavement.

"Ma'am, get your hands off that vehicle right now!" the off-duty trooper shouted, pulling his badge from his belt and stepping between Rosalyn and the car door.

Rosalyn turned on the trooper, completely unhinged. "Do you know who I am? Step aside or I’ll have your badge stripped by morning!"

"Hands behind your back, ma'am," the trooper ordered coldly, grabbing her wrists and forcing her against the trunk of her Mercedes.

"Let go of me! Brandon! Help me!" she screamed hysterically, thrashing against the hood of the car as the handcuffs clicked into place.

Within six minutes, two local police cruisers arrived with sirens screaming. Rosalyn was read her Miranda rights in the middle of a crowded grocery store parking lot, her designer sunglasses falling to the ground and crushing under the officer's boot.

As they shoved her into the back of the cruiser, she locked eyes with me through the squad car window. Her face was twisted into a mask of pure, helpless rage.

For the first time since this nightmare began, I didn't feel fear. I felt an overwhelming sense of clarity.

The Thorne dynasty wasn't invincible. They were just bullies with trust funds, and their empire was crumbling from their own arrogance.
