Chapter 14 - The Final Courtroom Verdict and True Justice

In late autumn, exactly one year after the nightmare began with a midnight voice note, the final chapter of legal accountability was written.
Federal Judge Thomas Keller presided over the sentencing hearing in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
Vanessa Cole was sentenced to four years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay two million dollars in restitution.
Then, Ryan Bennett stood before the bench to receive his judgment.
Judge Keller looked down over his bench with zero leniency.
"Mr. Ryan Bennett, your conduct represents the absolute worst form of corporate malfeasance and familial betrayal. You attempted to defraud a pillar of this state’s industrial economy, fabricated legal and medical documents against your own ailing father, and showed utter contempt for the law. You are hereby sentenced to eight years and six months at the Federal Correctional Institution in Florence, Colorado, with zero eligibility for parole, alongside full restitution of three point eight million dollars."
The wooden gavel struck the block with a resounding boom.
Ryan was led away through the side door by federal marshals, not looking back.
The divorce proceedings were finalized simultaneously. Under Colorado law governing criminal dissipation of marital assets, the family court awarded one hundred percent of the marital estate, full legal and physical custody of the children, and complete ownership of all personal properties to me, with zero spousal maintenance or financial claims granted to Ryan.

As Arthur Vance, Harold, and I walked down the grand granite steps of the federal courthouse, the autumn air was crisp and clean. The media reporters shouted questions from behind the barricades, but for the first time in twelve months, we didn't need to answer them.
The truth had already spoken for itself.
