Chapter 9 - The Midnight Digital Heist: Mirroring Julian's Private Server Before It Was Wiped

With Sarah's master key in our possession, Elena Rostova was able to execute a complete digital mirror of Julian's private, encrypted cloud architecture by 2:00 PM on Thursday.

What we discovered inside was the final nail in Julian and Victoria's coffin.

Julian had not only stolen my inheritance; he had actively defrauded his primary investors. The revolutionary "logistics routing software" that had attracted $15 million in venture capital was an elaborate piece of vaporware—a reskinned open-source program that Julian and Victoria had purchased from an overseas developer for $50,000 while pocketing the rest of the development funds.

They had planned to announce the European launch at the gala, collect the final $10 million round of institutional funding on Friday morning, and then let the company collapse into artificial bankruptcy while they fled with the stolen assets.

"This isn't just civil fraud or marital theft," Marcus said, reviewing the mirrored files on his monitor. "This is full-scale securities fraud, wire fraud, and grand conspiracy. The SEC has just joined the federal task force. Arrest warrants have been signed by the federal magistrate."

"Are the screens ready for the presentation tonight?" I asked.

Marcus smiled, his eyes gleaming with cold anticipation. "The AV tech at the Brown Palace has been completely replaced by our independent digital forensics team. When Julian clicks his clicker to present the 'Future of Vance Logistics,' he won't be showing his promotional slides."

"What will he be showing?"

"The truth," Marcus replied. "In 4K high definition."
