Chapter 11 - The Eve of Destruction: Julian's Final Boast to His Secret Lover

We arrived at the historic Brown Palace Hotel in a chauffeured black town car at 6:45 PM.
The grand ballroom was magnificent. Crystal chandeliers hung from the soaring ceilings, illuminating three hundred of Denver's most influential business leaders, venture capitalists, politicians, and socialites. Champagne flowed freely, and a string quartet played softly in the corner.
The moment we walked through the double doors, Victoria Sterling appeared, radiant in her emerald gown, clutching a glass of vintage champagne.
She offered me a patronizing smile. "Clara, darling, you look so... traditional. Doesn't she look lovely, Julian?"
"Always," Julian said, his dismissive tone dripping with condescension. He leaned in close to Victoria, ostensibly checking the event program, but I could hear his low whisper clearly: "The European funds are confirmed. The house deed is locked in the Delaware entity. After the presentation, we announce the restructuring, and she's out on the street by morning."
Victoria let out a soft, triumphant laugh, her eyes sparkling with cold delight. "I booked our private charter to Zurich for 6:00 AM tomorrow. That idiot won't even have time to cry."
I stood right beside them, sipping my sparkling water with a serene smile on my lips, watching the two of them bask in the absolute peak of their delusion.

At 7:30 PM, the master of ceremonies took the podium. "Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed investors, and distinguished guests: please take your seats. Tonight, we are proud to introduce the visionary CEO of Vance Logistics Group—Mr. Julian Vance!"
The ballroom erupted in polite, thunderous applause as Julian adjusted his tuxedo jacket, flashed a million-dollar smile, and strode confidently up the carpeted stairs toward the grand stage.
