Chapter 13 - Handcuffs, Freeze Orders, and the Look of Pure Terror in Their Eyes

Before Julian could take two steps toward the side of the stage, the heavy double doors at the back of the grand ballroom swung open with immense force.
Twelve armed federal marshals and special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation marched into the room, led by Marcus Vance and the Assistant United States Attorney.
"Julian Vance! Victoria Sterling!" the lead agent’s voice bellowed through a tactical megaphone, cutting through the chaos. "Remain where you are! You are both under arrest pursuant to federal warrants for wire fraud, bank fraud, and conspiracy to commit grand larceny!"
Julian’s knees visibly buckled. He stumbled backward against the glass podium, knocking it sideways. "Wait! There’s been a mistake! This is a private corporate matter! This is my wife’s doing—she’s unstable! She’s mentally incompetent!"
Marcus Vance stepped onto the stage, holding up a certified court order. "The only person who is legally declared incompetent here is you, Mr. Vance. Every asset you attempted to steal has been seized by federal receivership. Your Delaware shell entity has been pierced and dissolved. You are completely broke."
Two federal agents ascended the stairs, grabbed Julian by his arms, twisted him around, and forced his hands behind his back. The cold, metallic click of handcuffs echoed clearly through the live microphone still clipped to his tuxedo lapel.
Across the room, two female agents pinned Victoria against the dining table as she shrieked, kicking and flailing. "Get your hands off me! I didn't do anything! It was all Julian! He forced me to sign those papers! He's the one who stole the money!"
"Save it for the federal grand jury, Ms. Sterling," the agent replied coldly, snapping the handcuffs tightly over her wrists.
As the agents marched Julian down the center aisle in handcuffs, he saw me standing there.
His face was a grotesque mask of sweat, terror, and utter disbelief. "Clara... Clara, please! Talk to them! Tell them this is a misunderstanding! I did this for us! You love me, Clara!"
I looked him dead in the eye, my voice perfectly calm, steady, and devoid of any warmth or mercy.

"You called me an idiot, Julian. But you forgot one simple thing: my father built this empire with his bare hands. You just thought you could steal the blueprints."
Julian’s jaw dropped in absolute horror as the federal marshals dragged him out into the lobby, where flashes from dozens of local news cameras were already illuminating the night.
