Chapter 10 - The Bait Is Taken: Handing Him the Phony Multi-Million Dollar Merger

At 5:00 PM on Thursday, two hours before the gala, Julian walked into our master bedroom, looking dashing in a custom black tuxedo.
I was sitting at my vanity in a breathtaking sapphire-blue evening gown—the exact color my father had always loved—carefully fastening my mother's diamond earrings.
Julian walked up behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders and leaning down to kiss the top of my head. "You look spectacular, Clara. Tonight is the night we cement our legacy."
"I couldn't agree more, Julian," I said, meeting his eyes in the vanity mirror. "By the way, a courier dropped off a special delivery package for you an hour ago. I left it on the entryway table."
Julian's eyes widened with greed. "The European term sheet?"
"The final signed institutional acquisition agreement," I lied smoothly. "It looks like your international partners approved the entire $10 million transfer."
Julian could barely contain his exhilaration. He turned on his heel and rushed downstairs to grab the folder. Inside was a brilliantly forged term sheet crafted by Marcus’s legal team, complete with official-looking international banking seals that appeared to confirm that every penny of his fraudulent scheme had succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.

Julian returned upstairs, his face flushed with the ultimate arrogance of a man who believed he was completely untouchable. "Clara, tonight you are going to see what a true master of business looks like. When I take that stage, everything changes."
"I know it will, Julian," I said softly, standing up and smoothing down the fabric of my sapphire dress. "Let's not keep your audience waiting."
