Chapter 8 - Turning His Loyal Henchmen: The Secretary Who Held the Master Key
Early Thursday morning, twelve hours before the gala, I made one final, crucial visit before the trap snapped shut.
I met Julian’s executive assistant, Sarah Jenkins, at a quiet coffee shop three blocks from the corporate headquarters. Sarah had worked for the company for five years, enduring Julian’s narcissistic outbursts and Victoria’s constant belittling for a meager salary that barely covered her mother’s medical expenses.
When Sarah sat down, she looked terrified, clutching her handbag tightly. "Mrs. Vance, if Julian finds out I'm talking to you—"
"Julian is no longer in a position to threaten anyone, Sarah," I said gently, sliding an official legal document across the table toward her.
It was an ironclad whistleblower protection agreement signed by the United States Attorney’s Office, along with a certified employment contract guaranteeing her the position of Operations Director under the restructured family trust entity, complete with full medical coverage and triple her current salary.
Sarah stared at the paper, her eyes welling with tears. "He made me destroy corporate logs, Clara. He told me that if I didn't alter the internal audit timestamps for the offshore routing numbers, he would fire me and make sure I was blacklisted from every corporate firm in Colorado."
"I know," I said softly. "And that's why you're going to hand Marcus Vance the unedited master server backup drive that you kept in your personal locker."
Sarah looked up, shocked. "How did you know I kept a backup?"
"Because you're smart, Sarah. And because you knew that when men like Julian collapse, they always try to blame the people below them."

Sarah opened her handbag and pulled out a sleek, black encrypted solid-state drive. "Every deleted email. Every falsified ledger. Every secret travel booking for Julian and Victoria over the last eighteen months. It's all here."
I took the drive and placed it inside my purse. "Thank you, Sarah. Tonight, the truth comes out."
