Chapter 15 - Sunrise Over the Horizon and a Triumphant New Life

One year later. A warm Saturday in July.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly completed Riverfront Tower was taking place along the Chicago Riverwalk.

Thousands of citizens, journalists, and city leaders had gathered along the water to watch the magnificent, sixty-story glass tower reflect the golden morning sunshine like a sparkling crystal jewel.

I stood on the central viewing platform overlooking the river, wearing a crisp white blazer, holding Leo’s hand in mine.

Leo looked up at the towering skyscraper, his eyes shining with awe, before looking up at me with a wide, fearless smile.

“Mom,” Leo said, squeezing my hand tightly. “You built something that’s going to stand forever.”

“We built it together, sweetheart,” I replied, leaning down to kiss the top of his head.

My sister Sarah and Arthur Vance walked over, handing us glasses of sparkling cider as the crowd erupted into triumphant cheers and confetti rained down from the sky.

I looked up at the endless blue horizon above Lake Michigan.

The betrayal that had sought to destroy my life had only revealed my unshakeable strength.

I had reclaimed my company.

I had protected my child.

I had rebuilt my family on a foundation of absolute truth and unconditional love.

And as my son and I walked forward into the warm, radiant sunshine, I knew with absolute certainty that our future was finally, beautifully, and eternally free.
