Chapter 12 - Margaret’s Desperate Plea

While Ryan and Ashley wallowed in jail awaiting their trial dates, Margaret Miller managed to post bail using the deed to her own dilapidated single-wide trailer in Pasco County as collateral.
Instead of keeping her head down and awaiting trial, Margaret’s desperation and delusion drove her to make one final, catastrophic mistake.
On Friday afternoon, Hannah was at the base legal office finalizing her honorable medical retirement paperwork after eighteen proud years of military service. Chloe had taken Lily to a secured, private daycare center operated on the nearby MacDill Air Force Base.
Margaret drove her rusted sedan straight to the MacDill base gate, foolishly believing she could sweet-talk her way into seeing Lily and begging the base commander to drop the military-assisted charges against her children.
"I am Lily Miller’s grandmother!" Margaret screamed at the armed Air Force Security Forces guards at the visitor checkpoint. "I have a right to see my granddaughter! Hannah Vance is an unfit mother who is abusing her military authority to tear my family apart!"
The security forces personnel immediately ran Margaret’s driver’s license through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.
Within five seconds, the system flashed bright red with active felony restraining order violations and outstanding state warrants for grand larceny and child abuse conspiracy.
"Driver, turn off the engine and step out of the vehicle with your hands up!" the lead sergeant commanded, drawing his sidearm.
Margaret panicked. Instead of complying, she threw the car into reverse, attempting to execute a frantic three-point turn.
A tactical tire-shredder barrier was instantly deployed from the pavement, blowing out all four of her tires with loud explosive pops. Within seconds, four armed security officers surrounded the vehicle, pulled Margaret through the driver’s side door, and pinned her face-first against the hot pavement.
"You can't do this to me! I'm an innocent grandmother!" Margaret shrieked into the dirt.

"Margaret Miller, you are on a federal military installation violating a felony protective order and attempting unauthorized entry," the sergeant barked, tightening the zip-ties around her wrists. "You are being transferred directly into federal custody."
When the news reached Hannah an hour later, she merely shook her head. The Miller family’s arrogance had finally led them to their complete and utter self-destruction.
