Chapter 6 - A World of Silk, Mirrors, and Unspoken Desires

The following morning, Molly woke up in the softest bed she had ever felt.

Sunlight poured through towering arched windows, illuminating the rich emerald curtains and antique mahogany furniture. For a moment, she thought she was dreaming. Then the sharp twinge in her stitched knee reminded her of reality.

A gentle knock sounded at the door.

Mrs. Higgins entered, followed by three young women pushing rolling racks filled with dozens of breathtaking designer dresses, tailored skirts, silk blouses, and exquisite cashmere coats.

"Good morning, Miss Molly," Mrs. Higgins said with a warm, maternal smile. "Master Jonathan has requested a full wardrobe for you and Miss Lily. These have been brought in from the city’s finest boutiques."

Molly sat up, pulling the duvet over her chest, her cheeks burning. "Oh... Mrs. Higgins, no. There’s been a mistake. I can’t wear any of this. Look at the sizes. High-end designers don't make clothes for women built like me. I’m a size 16. These dresses are for runway models."

One of the stylists, a stylish woman in her forties with sharp spectacles, stepped forward with a genuine smile.

"Mr. Vance specifically sent your exact measurements, darling, and demanded custom cuts from Italian and French houses designed specifically to celebrate a curvy, hourglass silhouette," the stylist explained. "He made it very clear: no shapeless sacks, no hiding. Only the absolute best."

Molly was speechless.

For the next two hours, Molly was swept into a whirlwind she had only ever seen in movies. Lily sat on the edge of the bed, clapping her hands and giggling as her mother tried on one stunning outfit after another.

There was an emerald-green silk wrap dress that hugged Molly’s waist and accentuated the feminine curve of her hips; a tailored navy blazer that made her look like a high-powered executive; and soft, buttery leather boots that accommodated her calves perfectly.

Finally, the stylist brought out the centerpiece: a bespoke evening gown of midnight-blue velvet.

It had an off-the-shoulder neckline that highlighted Molly’s smooth collarbones, a structured bodice that cinched her waist comfortably without suffocating her, and a flowing skirt with a tasteful slit that allowed her to walk with complete freedom.

When Molly turned to look at herself in the full-length gilded mirror, her breath caught.

The woman staring back was not the tired, invisible, bruised cashier from Roscoe’s Diner.

She was radiant. Her curves were elegant and striking. Her soft brown hair had been brushed into loose, lustrous waves cascading over her shoulders. Her skin glowed against the dark velvet.

"Mommy..." Lily whispered, walking up and touching the hem of the velvet gown. "You look like a queen."

A tear slipped down Molly’s cheek. For the first time in her life, she didn't feel ashamed of her body. She didn't feel like an unwanted burden taking up too much space.

"She speaks the truth," a deep voice rumbled from the doorway.

Molly turned quickly.

Jonathan stood in the entrance of the suite. He was dressed in a formal black tuxedo, his broad shoulders filling the frame, his dark hair immaculately styled.

His gray eyes swept over Molly from head to toe, lingering on the gentle swell of her bust, the curve of her hips, and the soft elegance of her neck.

For a long moment, the billionaire said nothing. His throat moved in a swallow, and a dark, undeniable heat flared in his gaze.

"You look... breathtaking, Molly," he said softly, his voice thick with sincere admiration.

Molly felt a sudden, electrifying jolt run straight down her spine. "Jonathan... where are we going?"

"Tonight is the annual Vance Global Charity Gala at the Grand Horizon Hotel downtown," Jonathan said, stepping into the room. "Julian Vance will be there, expecting Devin to deliver the locket at the pier. Instead, we are going to walk through the front doors of the ballroom together."

He held out his hand to her.

"Let us go show the world who holds the real power."
