Chapter 13 - Healing Scars and Confessions Beneath the Rain

The following weeks were filled with a profound, tender healing.
Jonathan’s estate was no longer a cold, sterile fortress. The halls were filled with the intoxicating aromas of Molly’s fresh baking—cinnamon rolls in the morning, warm baguettes at noon, and decadent chocolate tarts in the evening. Lily’s laughter echoed through the grand library as Jonathan patiently taught the little girl how to play chess on an antique marble board.
One rainy Saturday afternoon, Molly found Jonathan standing on the covered terrace, watching the sheets of rain pour over the rose gardens below.
He was wearing a simple black sweater and dark jeans, looking relaxed and strikingly handsome.
Molly stepped up beside him, wrapping a warm wool shawl around her shoulders. She slipped her arm through his uninjured right arm, resting her head against his broad bicep.
"Remember the night we met?" Molly asked softly, listening to the rhythmic drum of the rain against the glass awning.
Jonathan smiled, turning his head to kiss her hair. "How could I forget? A furious, beautiful woman threw herself into my Maybach, bled on my five-thousand-dollar carpet, and ordered me to lock the door."
Molly laughed—a rich, full, melodic sound that warmed Jonathan’s heart.
"I was so terrified of you," she confessed. "You looked like an assassin in a charcoal suit."
"I was terrified too," Jonathan admitted quietly.
Molly looked up, surprised. "You? The Iron Duke of Wall Street? Terrified of what?"
Jonathan turned toward her, taking both of her soft hands into his.
"For seven years after Clara died, I shut down every human part of myself," he explained, his gray eyes dark with emotion. "I thought that if I never cared for anyone, I could never be hurt again. I built walls of steel and money around my life. And then you climbed into my car."
He reached up, gently tucking a strand of brown hair behind her ear.
"You were battered, terrified, and bleeding, but you fought like a lioness to protect your daughter's location from a stranger. You showed me that real strength isn't about weapons or bank accounts. It’s about love. You dismantled every wall I built in less than five minutes, Molly."
Molly felt tears prick her eyes. She leaned into his touch, pressing a soft kiss to the palm of his hand.
"Devin spent years telling me my body was a flaw," she murmured, looking down at her curves beneath her dress. "He told me I was too soft, too heavy, too much."
Jonathan’s hands moved down to her waist, his fingers gripping her hips firmly, pulling her flush against his hard, muscular frame.

"Devin was a blind fool," Jonathan said fiercely, his voice vibrating against her chest. "You are soft in all the ways a woman should be soft. You are strong in all the ways that matter. You are gorgeous, Molly Grant. Every single curve of your body is a masterpiece, and I intend to spend the rest of my life proving that to you."
Molly smiled through her tears, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down until their lips met in a sweet, lingering promise that washed away the last lingering shadows of her past.
