Chapter 12 - The Iron Law of Jonathan Vance

The legal aftermath was swift, brutal, and absolute.
Jonathan mobilized his entire legal army—a squad of sixty top-tier corporate and criminal attorneys—to ensure that neither Devin Miller nor Julian Vance would ever see the light of day again.
Julian Vance was sentenced to forty-five years at a federal penitentiary in Colorado without the possibility of parole, his assets entirely seized and liquidated to pay reparations to the victims of his corporate embezzlement.
Devin Miller was sentenced to twenty-eight years for attempted murder, aggravated burglary, and domestic terrorism, remanded to a maximum-security prison with zero visitation rights.
The diner where Molly had worked, Roscoe’s, was bought outright by Jonathan Vance. He fired the sleazy manager who had let Devin harass Molly on the premises, completely renovated the building, and placed the deed to the property in Molly’s name.
"It’s yours," Jonathan had told her one afternoon as they sat in his study overlooking the misty mountains. "You can turn it into your dream bakery. Or you can sell it. Or you can let it sit. It is your sovereignty."
Molly stared at the legal documents in front of her, the golden seal of ownership shining on the parchment.
"Jonathan... this is worth half a million dollars," Molly breathed, her voice trembling. "I can’t accept this."
Jonathan stood up from behind his massive mahogany desk and walked over to where she sat.
He knelt down before her, resting his large hands on her knees.
"Molly," he said softly, looking into her hazel eyes. "You gave me back my sister’s honor. You gave me back my family’s legacy. And more than that... you brought warmth, laughter, and life into this cold, empty tomb of a house."
He leaned closer, his deep voice dropping into an intimate whisper.
"I don't want you to accept the bakery as payment. I want you to accept it as a reminder that you are beholden to no one. You are a woman of immense power, Molly. And if you choose to stay here with me... I want it to be because you want me, not because you need my protection."
Molly looked down at this magnificent, powerful man who had bowed before her.
For six years, Devin had told her she was nothing.
And here was a king offering her the world, asking only for her heart.
"Jonathan," Molly whispered, reaching up to cup his strong jaw, her thumbs tracing the scar beneath his ear. "I don't need your money. I don't need your fortress."
She leaned in, her lips brushing against his.
May you like
"I just need you."
Jonathan let out a low groan, stood up, and pulled her into his arms, crushing her against his chest as his mouth claimed hers in a deep, passionate, and long-denied kiss that set both of their souls on fire.
