Chapter 11 - Blood on Lake Shore Drive and the Healer’s Defiance

The Grand Ballroom of the Drake Hotel was filled with the elite of Chicago’s underworld—capos, politicians, corrupt judges, and international financiers. Over two hundred guests drank champagne beneath crystal chandeliers, whispering about the imminent fall of the Lombardi dynasty.
At the head table sat Marco Lombardi, wearing an arrogant grin as he accepted premature congratulations from the Moretti syndicate bosses.
“Sebastian is a ghost,” Marco announced loudly, raising his glass. “A broken man hiding behind nurses. Tonight, we vote for a leader who can defend our territory!”
The double doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open.
The music stopped instantly.
Gabriel Mendes marched in first, flanked by twenty heavily armed enforcers in matching black suits.
Behind them walked Clare Bennett, stunning in an emerald green silk gown that accentuated every curve, her head held high, radiating unbreakable poise.
And beside her...
A gasp rippled through the two hundred guests like an electric shock.
Sebastian Lombardi was walking.
He wore a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit. He held a silver-headed cane in his right hand, but his stride was deliberate, heavy, and majestic. With every step he took across the marble floor, the silence in the ballroom deepened into absolute terror.
Marco’s champagne glass slipped from his fingers, shattering on the polished stone. His face turned the color of ash.
“Impossible...” Marco stammered, backing away from the table. “You... your spine was destroyed!”
Sebastian stopped ten feet from his cousin. He stood tall, towering over Marco, his broad shoulders squared, radiating the lethal aura of a monarch returned from the grave.
“You bought Dr. Henderson,” Sebastian spoke, his deep baritone carrying to every corner of the vast hall. “You paid him to place screws into my nerve roots so I would rot in a chair while you stole my empire.”

The capos exchanged alarmed, furious glances.
“That’s a lie!” Marco screamed, reaching for the gun hidden beneath his tuxedo jacket. “He’s a cripple playing tricks!”
