Chapter 15 - From The Kitchen Floor To The Golden Horizon: Our Forever

One year later.
The grand coastal estate in Monterey, California, was alive with the laughter of friends, family, and loved ones.
Our wedding had been an intimate, breathtaking celebration overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Dressed in a custom lace gown designed by the finest atelier in Paris, I had walked down an aisle lined with white roses and eucalyptus, straight into the arms of the only man who had ever made me feel completely safe, cherished, and loved.
That afternoon, I stood inside the sunlit conservatory of our coastal home, looking out at the rolling green hills and the glittering blue ocean beyond.
On the mahogany desk behind me lay the grand opening documents for the Claire Hayes Foundation for Women and Children—a nationwide network of luxury emergency shelters, legal aid centers, and educational institutes that Ronan and I had co-founded together.
Beside the foundation documents was the deed to Vance Books & Coffee, my dream independent bookstore and literary café located in the heart of the coastal town, which had opened its doors to overwhelming community support last month.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around my waist, and Ronan’s warm lips pressed a tender kiss against the curve of my neck.
“What are you admiring, Mrs. Hayes?” Ronan murmured, his hands resting lovingly over my stomach.
I turned in his embrace, looking up into those brilliant slate-gray eyes that had once terrified me in the dim light of the Continental, but now held nothing but warmth, tenderness, and infinite devotion.
“I was thinking about how far we’ve come,” I said, smiling as I rested my hands over his. “From the kitchen floor to this paradise.”
Ronan leaned down, resting his forehead against mine, his fingers tangling in my dark hair.
“You were never meant for the floor, little bird,” Ronan whispered, his voice vibrating with absolute love. “You were meant to soar.”

He leaned down and kissed me passionately under the warm California sun—a sweet, eternal promise that the shadows of the past were gone forever, and our bright, beautiful future had only just begun.
