Chapter 13 - Sarah’s True Final Will

Two weeks later, Luca, Lily, and I traveled to Geneva, Switzerland.
Before Sarah passed, she had established a private family foundation at a historic private bank near Lake Geneva—a foundation that could only be unlocked once Luca presented both the brass key 214 and the woman who wore the daisy heirloom ring.
The Swiss banker, an elderly gentleman with silver hair and wire-rimmed glasses, led us into the private archives. He carried a leather-bound folio stamped with the Moretti family crest.
“Mrs. Sarah Moretti left strict instructions,” the banker explained in a dignified Swiss-French accent. “The assets within this trust were never part of the syndicate. They are Sarah’s personal family inheritance—centuries of legitimate maritime shipping patents, real estate across Europe, and an endowment for pediatric hospitals.”
The banker placed a wax-sealed envelope on the table before us. On the front, Sarah had written in her elegant script:
TO CLAIRE—THE WOMAN WHO HEARD MY VOICE.
Luca looked at me, nodding with gentle encouragement. “Open it, Claire.”
My fingers trembled slightly as I broke the red wax seal. Inside was a handwritten letter:
Dear Claire,
If you are reading this, it means you found the key hidden in my red sweater. It means you saw past the wealth, the power, and the danger of the Moretti name, and chose to protect my little girl.
I knew that one day, another woman would walk the halls of my home. My greatest fear was that she would see Lily as a burden or a tool for ambition. My greatest hope was that she would love Lily with the fierce, protective grace that only a true mother possesses.
You are that woman, Claire.
I leave this foundation entirely in your care. Use it to heal, to protect, and to build a life of peace for Luca and Lily. Do not let Luca remain in the shadows. Remind him to laugh, remind him to live, and remind him that he is worthy of being loved.
Thank you for loving my daughter.
With all my blessings and eternal gratitude,
Sarah.
I pressed the letter to my heart, the tears flowing silently down my cheeks. Luca wrapped his strong arm around my shoulders, pressing a tender kiss to my temple as we looked at Sarah’s handwriting together.

Lily leaned against my side, looking at the letter. “Mommy would have loved you so much, Claire.”
“I love her too, Lily,” I whispered, looking out the grand bank windows at the sparkling waters of Lake Geneva. “And we will make her proud every single day.”
