Chapter 15 - The Queen of the Manor and the Warmest Christmas Yet

One year later, the Grimm estate was once again blanketed in soft, pristine white snow.

Christmas Eve had returned to the mountains. The leaded glass windows glowed with golden light, and the towering fir trees along the driveway sparkled with thousands of diamond-white fairy lights.

Inside the grand entrance hall, the atmosphere was a paradise of warmth, laughter, and royal celebration.

The grand mahogany staircase was draped in lush silver fir and velvet crimson ribbons. White lilies and crystal ornaments adorned every polished surface, and the scent of spiced cider, roasting prime rib, and pine filled every corner of the magnificent estate.

Standing on the third step of the grand staircase, Emily smiled down at the festive scene below.

She was no longer wearing the faded uniform of a frightened junior maid. Tonight, Emily wore an exquisite, custom-designed white silk and lace gown that trailed behind her like spun snow. In her hair rested a delicate tiara of platinum and diamonds, and on her left ring finger sparkled an eight-carat flawless diamond wedding band.

She was Emily Grimm—the beloved wife of Nicholas Grimm, the co-owner of the city's largest shipping empire, and the true Queen of the Manor.

Mrs. Gable walked up the stairs, carrying a silver tray with two crystal flutes of vintage champagne. Her face was glowing with genuine, grandmotherly pride.

"Everything is ready for the reception, Mrs. Grimm," Mrs. Gable said with a respectful, affectionate bow. "The guests are arriving, and the staff has ensured perfection in every hall."

"Thank you, Mrs. Gable," Emily said warmly, placing a gentle hand on the older woman's arm. "And remember, after the toast, all staff are to join the main dining hall for dinner with their families. No one works alone tonight."

"You have a heart of gold, my dear," Mrs. Gable smiled warmly. "The master is a blessed man."

Heavy, familiar footsteps sounded across the polished marble below.

Nicholas walked into the foyer, dressed in an immaculate black dinner tuxedo, his steel-grey eyes softening the second they locked onto his wife.

He climbed the grand staircase, stepping up to her side and wrapping a strong, possessive arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest.

"You look breathtaking, my love," Nicholas whispered, his lips lightly brushing against the soft skin behind her ear, sending a delicious shiver down her spine.

"And you look like a very handsome king," Emily teased softly, turning in his arms and looping her hands around his broad shoulders.

Nicholas looked over the balcony at the grand entrance hall. His gaze lingered for a moment on the console table, where a magnificent, hand-painted ceramic urn stood proudly in the center—a gift Emily had commissioned from an artisan in Milan to replace the one that had shattered a year ago.

"Do you remember where we were exactly one year ago tonight?" Nicholas asked quietly.

"I was freezing in a snowdrift, thinking the world had ended," Emily replied, looking up into the eyes of the man who had changed her destiny forever. "And you came out of the dark and carried me into the light."

Nicholas leaned down, resting his forehead against hers, his voice filled with an unshakeable, eternal devotion.

"I will always come for you, Emily. In every storm, through every shadow, until my last breath."

As the clock struck midnight, heralding the arrival of Christmas Day, Nicholas pulled his queen into a deep, loving kiss under the mistletoe of the grand hall.

Outside, the snow fell softly against the mountain pines, cold and quiet, but inside the fortress of Nicholas Grimm, there was only boundless warmth, unyielding love, and a happiness that would endure for all the years to come.

THE END
