Chapter 10 - The Betrayal and the Stash of Cash
At the Sterling Estate, Richard was frantically packing bearer bonds, diamonds, and forged passports into a leather duffel bag.
Celeste burst into the room, screaming, "Why are you packing?! Harold Vance is securing the child right now!"
Richard shoved her to the floor. "It’s over! Dr. Harrison’s nurse called—Jonathan took the black ledger and the audio tapes! We are facing fifty years for human trafficking and fraud! I’m taking the private jet to Panama!"
Celeste pulled a .38 revolver from her vanity drawer, aiming it at Richard. "You aren't leaving with my money!"
Richard lunged, twisting her wrist. The gun fired into the ceiling. He slammed an elbow into Celeste’s face, knocking her down, snatched the revolver, and grabbed the duffel bag.

"Enjoy the trial, darling," Richard sneered.
He sped down the estate driveway in his sports car, believing he was home-free. But at the bottom of the mountain road, three armored federal tactical vehicles deployed spike strips, shredding his tires and causing the car to spin out. Federal agents dragged Richard from the wreckage in handcuffs.
