Chapter 9 - THE ESCAPE PLAN

“Sign it,” Victoria demanded, thrusting a clipboard forward.

Arthur shook his head fiercely.

“Don’t do it, Sarah!” Arthur yelled.

“She can’t touch us if we get to the police!”

The masked man holding Arthur pressed the stun baton against his ribs.

Arthur let out a sharp, agonizing cry of pain as electricity surged through his body.

“Stop it!” Sarah screamed, bursting into tears.

“I’ll sign! Just don’t hurt him!”

“Sarah, no!” I hissed under my breath.

I inched backward toward the adjoining bathroom door.

My fingers gripped the brass knob behind my back.

If I could lock myself inside, I could use my cell phone to call 911.

“Hey! Where do you think you’re going?” the second intruder shouted, noticing my movement.

He lunged across the room toward me.

I didn’t hesitate.

I hurled the heavy porcelain lamp directly into his face!

Crash!

The lamp shattered against his tactical helmet, staggering him backward.

“Run, Sarah!” I screamed.

I grabbed Sarah’s arm and yanked her toward the bathroom door.

We slammed it shut behind us just as a heavy fist hammered against the wood.

“Lock it! Lock it!” Sarah panted, frantically turning the privacy bolt.

Outside, Victoria shrieked in rage.

“Break that door down! Get them!”

Wood splintered as the masked men began ramming their shoulders against the door.
