Chapter 2 - THE CRASH AND THE CONFESSION

The silver tray tilted.
Champagne flutes chimed like shattering glass before they even hit the floor.
Then came the heavy, sickening thud.
The twenty-thousand-dollar five-tier cake collapsed inward.
Vanilla sponge and raspberry coulis splattered across the imported Italian marble.
Edible gold leaf smeared into the dust.
Sugar flowers crushed into a sticky, ruined mess.
Gasps echoed through the grand ballroom.
Two hundred guests froze mid-sentence.
String quartet music ground to an agonizing halt.
Victoria crossed the room like an avenging angel.
Her designer gown swept the floor.
Her face twisted into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury.
“You clumsy old fool!” Victoria shrieked, pointing a trembling finger at the waiter.
“Do you have any idea how much that cost?!”
The elderly man didn't flinch.
He didn't scramble to pick up the pieces.
He stayed on one knee amid the ruined frosting.
His tired eyes rose slowly from the floor.
They locked onto Sarah.
My best friend stood by the altar arch, clutching her Vera Wang skirt.
Her face had gone completely pale.
The waiter’s lips parted.
His voice cracked across the silent hall.
“I’m sorry, Sarah.”
He looked directly into her eyes.
“I never meant to ruin your wedding, sweetheart.”
“But after thirty years of searching... I finally found you.”
May you like
“I’m your father.”
The ballroom dropped into a vacuum of absolute silence.
