Chapter 15 - A NEW DAWN AND A HAPPY ENDING — THE END

Three months after the garden wedding, the city of Chicago had returned to a semblance of normal.

The tabloid frenzy had finally died down, leaving Sarah and Arthur to piece together thirty lost years of birthdays, holidays, and quiet Sunday dinners.

Arthur moved into a lovely, sunlit apartment just ten minutes away from Sarah and Michael’s new home.

He spent his weekends building a wooden dollhouse for the grandchild he hoped to spoil one day, no longer hiding in the shadows, no longer running from a past that had stolen his youth.

As for me?

I went back to my quiet life, my ordinary job, and my loyal group of friends—though Olivia and the rest of our brunch circle were permanently demoted to casual acquaintances after their disastrous joke.

I learned a valuable lesson about the unpredictability of life.

You never know who you’re serving.

You never know what secrets are buried beneath the frosting of an expensive society wedding.

And sometimes, a clumsy waiter dropping a twenty-thousand-dollar cake is the exact miracle the universe needs to set things right.

I stood on the balcony of my apartment, sipping a cup of hot coffee as the autumn sun rose over Lake Michigan.

My phone buzzed on the table.

It was a text message from Sarah:

“Dad is coming over for pancakes this morning. Do you want to join us?”

I smiled, typing back my reply instantly:

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

The past was buried.

The truth had set everyone free.

And for all of us, a brand-new, beautiful chapter had finally begun.

THE END
