Chapter 8 - VICTORIA’S DESPERATION

Victoria strolled into the darkened room as if she owned the universe.

She stepped over Michael’s unconscious body without a second glance.

“You really should have stayed away, Arthur,” Victoria purred, shaking her head.

“You ruined my daughter’s wedding.”

“And now you’re going to ruin my entire life.”

“You stole my child, Victoria!” Arthur shouted, struggling against the masked man holding him down.

“And you stole my inheritance!”

“I protected her from a pauper!” Victoria shrieked back.

“You were a bankrupt failure when I left you!”

“I built an empire with Michael’s money, and I am not letting a washed-up waiter take it all away!”

Sarah stood frozen near the window, staring at her mother in sheer horror.

“You... you hired these men?” Sarah whispered, her voice trembling.

“I hired professionals, darling,” Victoria corrected smoothly.

“They are going to take your dear father on a very long, permanent trip out of state.”

“And as for you two,” Victoria’s cold eyes shifted to me and Sarah.

“You’re going to sign a non-disclosure agreement stating that Arthur Pendelton was a delusional stalker who fabricated a fake identity.”

“And if you refuse?” I challenged, keeping my grip on the porcelain lamp hidden behind my back.

Victoria laughed—a harsh, ugly sound.

“If you refuse, your new husband wakes up with permanent brain damage from a tragic hotel room accident.”

My heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird.

I glanced at Michael.

Blood was slowly pooling on the carpet near his head.
